ThePILLARS Publication reinforced its journalistic excellence as it clinched three placements among more than 850 participants in the recently-held 19th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) last 19-21 March 2024 at the Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City, with the theme "AI and Ethics: Shaping the Future of Campus Journalism in the Digital Age".

The Association of Luzonwide Tertiary Press Advisers (ALTPA) hosted the press conference with the aim of enriching the journalistic qualities of the participating campus journalists in the face of the rise of artificial intelligence, after three years of hiatus due to the pandemic.

After the three-day press conference, all three journalist qualifiers bagged awards in the individual category of the competition.

Francine Irish Raรฑa was hailed the Best Editorial Writer in the competition, nabbing first place in Editorial Writing - English. Meanwhile, Byron Jon delos Santos clinched the bronze medal for Editorial Cartooning - Filipino and Ivan Obias placed ninth in News Writing - English.

Edlaine Anne Mercado, the technical adviser of the publication, accompanied the three staffers.

Moreover, the Bicol Region was awarded the Best Performing Region in the Individual Category, and is the first runner-up overall in the said conference.

The next edition of the LHEPC will be hosted by CALABARZON next year.
