BAYAN Camarines Sur Chairperson, Nelsy Rodriguez, declared that seeing Filipinos, especially youth, clamoring for change motivates them to constantly organize mass mobilizations. Despite the drizzling rain and cases of restraining their rights to speak, members of progressive groups spearheaded a protest at Plaza Oragon, Naga City prior to President Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr.’s 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, 22 July 2024.
“Hangga’t may lumalapit, at marami ang tumitindig, lalo [na] ang mga kabataan, naghahangad ng pagbabago, iyan ang motibasyon,” said Rodriguez in an interview with ThePILLARS Publication.
She underscored the importance of holding rallies, stating that relentlessly raising awareness and demanding development and accountability from the government forces them to listen to the masses’ grievances.
Rodriguez demanded President Marcos to look into and work at the grassroots level to gauge how Filipinos struggle daily.
It is undeniably challenging to retain hopeful expectations from the current regime provided their deliberate infringement on Filipinos’ freedom of expression and endless human rights violations.
Nelsy Rodriguez also raised the dreadful situations experienced by the people in BAYAN: “Doon mo makikita na walang puwang ang panghihina.
Today’s march was not only a rallying cry calling out against the apathy of the elite but a fervent protest demanding accountability and reminding the masses of the power they hold.
“Tayo na naninidigan, ang kanilang mga pangangalingan… At kung may natatakot man ngayon, hindi habang panahon,” said BAYAN CS Chairperson Nelsy Rodriguez.
