Five staff members of ThePILLARS Publication of Ateneo de Naga University participated in the recently concluded 21st Regional Tertiary Schools Press Conference held in La Piazza Hotel and Convention Center, Legazpi City, Albay.
The Association of Tertiary Schools Publication Advisers of Bicol, Inc. (ATSPAB) hosted the three-day Bicol region-wide press conference from 17-19 January 2024, with 243 campus journalists from 24 tertiary school publications.
With the theme "AI and Ethics: Shaping the Future of Campus Journalism in the Digital Age," the press conference aimed to strengthen the journalistic skills of tertiary campus journalists amid the challenges brought by Artificial Intelligence in the world of journalism.
Ivan Obias received third place in News Writing (English), Byron Delos Santos secured fourth place in Editorial Cartooning (Filipino), and Francine Irish Raña claimed sixth place in Editorial Writing (English) and eighth place in Feature Writing (English).
Additionally, John Paul Barrosa was acknowledged for his work in Sports Writing (English) and Copyreading and Headline Writing (English), while Jaica May Barrogo showcased her skills in Feature Writing (Filipino).
They were accompanied by their technical adviser, Edlaine Anne Mercado.
Obias and Delos Santos will join other first to fifth-placers in representing the region in the Luzon Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC), to be held in Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City in March 2024.
This year's RTSPC marked its comeback after its three-year hiatus during the SARS-CoV2 Pandemic.
