ATENEO DE NAGA UNIVERSITY (AdNU) has announced a temporary remote work arrangement for non-teaching personnel, designating Thursdays as an institutional work-from-home (WFH) day starting 26 March 2026. The policy, signed by University President Fr. Aristotle C. Dy, SJ on 18 March, takes effect this week and runs through the end of School Year 2025–2026.
The move comes in response to rising fuel and commodity prices driven by the ongoing Middle East crisis, which has prompted government agencies nationwide to adopt energy-saving measures. AdNU's decision aligns with Malacañang Memorandum Circular No. 114 s2026 and directives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Select Thursdays
The WFH arrangement applies to five Thursdays through the end of the school year: 26 March, 16 April, 23 April, 7 May, and 14 May—skipping weeks that already contain a public holiday, when on-campus presence is required to maintain at least four working days. The Human Resource Management Office will issue updates if the schedule changes.
Higher education classes on affected Thursdays will move online, either in synchronous or asynchronous format. Laboratory sessions, practicum courses, and RLE activities that require physical presence will continue on campus as scheduled. Final examinations—for graduating students from 6-9 May, and for non-graduating students from 18-23 May 18—will all be held on-site.
Office-based non-teaching personnel who can work remotely are required to stay home on Thursdays. Campus access will be restricted on those days, and employees must submit an approved work plan beforehand and an accomplishment report afterward, which will serve as their attendance record.
Staff who cannot effectively work from home, including Physical Plant and Administration (PPA) personnel, Network Operations staff, laboratory custodians, and security, may instead adopt an Alternative Work Arrangement (AWA), compressing their 44-hour week into four days (Monday through Wednesday and Friday) with extended shifts of up to 11 hours. For these employees, Thursday becomes their rest day.
Broader conservation push
Beyond the WFH day, the University is calling on the entire campus community to observe energy conservation practices on regular working days. The Campus Safety and Sustainability Office (CSOO) is set to issue specific guidelines covering responsible use of air-conditioning, switching off lights and equipment when idle, and maximizing natural lighting and ventilation.
The arrangement is in force until the end of SY 2025–2026 but may be lifted earlier if global fuel and energy prices stabilize, or if operational needs warrant a change. The Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) will issue updates should any adjustments to the schedule be necessary.
