COMELEC emphasized that the extension of the filing for COC is to “encourage a greater participation of the democratic processes of the Liderato kan Nueva Atenista”, and to provide ample time for the qualified and interested candidates to prepare for their candidacy.
This move pushes the deadline past the previous 3 June 2026 cut-off, marking the second administrative extension for the Special Elections filing period.
The initial deadline for the General Elections lasted for three days, from 5-8 May 2026, having the first extension to 9 May 2026 announced through memorandum 2025-2026-031.
Last day before the end of the voting proper for the General Elections, the COMELEC released a facebook post containing the timeline for the Lideratos Special Elections.
The initial timeline for the filing of COC was set for 13 to 23 May 2026, following a failure of elections for the unfilled positions of External Vice President, Secretary, Public Information Officer, Treasurer, and Representatives across all colleges.
The first extension for the Special Elections was announced through memorandum 2025-2026-036, extending the deadline to 3 June 2026, which has now collapsed into this latest 30 June 2026 extension. | via Marifer Mameng/ThePILLARS Publication
